All Aboard with Amtrak in America's North East

At press time, Deb Sanderson has been an Amtrak employee for 26 years. Deb started in the role of Unassigned Clerk, which at Amtrak is a "floating" position which fills in for various different roles. One benefit of working for Amtrak is the ability to change jobs, for example, migrating from Administration to Engineer or Conductor.

Deb works on the second floor of the Albany/Rensselaer rail station, actually owned and maintained by the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA). Travel Expert Stephanie Abrams and Deb Sanderson describe the physical Albany-Rensselaer Rail Station building as a gorgeous light filled space with great views and ambiance. The station has many amenities including food and hospitality services as well as day and overnight covered parking.

The region Deb is responsible for includes New York's Hudson Valley region and extends from New York City to Niagara Falls and Montreal in Canada.

Stephanie Abrams and Deb Sanderson extol the many virtues of traveling by train. When traveling with children they can get up and move around, explore the train, visit the dining car and walk between trains. Those traveling for business can enjoy seating comparable with First Class on an airplane in the standard Coach level service on a train. Seats are larger with ample leg room allowing business travelers to relax and refresh during transit and if they have work to do on the ride, do so in comfort.

The Empire Service in New York includes business-class leather seats which are wider than standard Coach service. Also the Empire Service cars are located at the end of train which results in lower foot traffic from passengers passing between cars for an overall more relaxing, quieter experience.

Some special Amtrak summer schedules have been set up for to include a stop at directly at the New York State Fair. Leave your car at home this year, and take Amtrak. Children age two to twelve will ride free. The train arrives right at the fairgrounds entrance thanks to a special agreement with CSX. The New York State Fair is August 21, 2014 through September 1, 2014.

Amtrak will be adding special service for the Saratoga Races this year to bring visitors from Manhattan to Saratoga New York for the events. Also additional evening departures to Saratoga have been added for them.
