“Traveling Feet” is broadcasting live from the Loews Miami Beach Hotel in the heart of South Beach, Florida. Loews Miami is the first new hotel built in the Miami Beach area in the last 30 years. It celebrated its 10th anniversary in December of 2008. The hotel was built to serve as a convention center and to attract leisure visitors including families. South Beach does not have many family-friendly resorts so the Loews Miami provides a unique atmosphere for the area. The original property was an art deco landmark built in 1939.

The hotel has 790 guest rooms with fantastic views. There are 50 luxury suites and two presidential suites. The Loews Miami offers an oceanfront swimming pool, jacuzzi, private cabanas and 6 restaurants and bars, including Emeril's Miami Beach.

Igor Omerhodzic, Head Concierge at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel wears several keys on his label that symbolize membership in an international concierge association, Les Clefs d'Or. Omerhodzic strives to help guests discover the best attractions that the Miami Beach area has to offer.

The hotel is only a 15 minute drive from Jungle Island, an outdoor attraction home to 1,100 tropical birds, 2,000 varieties of plants and flowers, and animal shows and exhibitions. The Miami Film Festival will be held March 6-15, 2009 and exhibit films from around the world. There are several galleries and specialty shops in the nearby retail district in addition to merchandise sold in the Loews Miami Beach Hotel. The Loews will undergo renovations starting in June, 2009 and a new retail store will be built with aquarium walls.

Executive Chef Gordon Mayberry heads the Preston's Brasserie restaurant at the hotel. Stephanie is already his fan because he's Irish. Purveyors of organic local product supply the restaurant. The Chef states that if the product isn't good you can't make a good meal out of it. The shrimp is fresh from the Gulf of Mexico and is U-10 (under ten pounds). Preston's Brasserie offers an infusion of ingredients from Florida, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Also on site is Sushi Sobe, a sushi bar and lounge (Sobe stands for South Beach and not the Japanese buckwheat noodles). Chef Mayberry provides a different take on ceviche (citrus-marinated seafood appetizer) and adds a South Beach, Miami touch. Another popular food choice is Sushi Sobe's deep-fried rolls.

Hour 2

Topics Include:

Stephanie rented a convertible from Dollar Thrifty at the Fort Lauderdale Airport but says that a car is hardly needed when you are based at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel. The hotel is only one block from Ocean Drive and a block and a half from Lincoln road. Miami International Airport is closer to the Loews Miami but Stephanie was able to obtain airfare for $99 USD each way flying with Jet Blue into the Fort Lauderdale. For guests of the Loews Miami that do want to explore more than just the surrounding area, Hertz Rental car company is on-site for convenience.

All rooms at the Loews Miami offer spectacular views of the pool, beach or city skyline. Each room comes with a plasma screen television. There is a pool bar and other great food and beverage outlets on site and in the nearby Miami Beach area.

The hotel offers a “Sobe Kids Camp”, a vibrant high energy activity program open to children 4-12 years old 9am to 5pm daily. On Fridays there is a night camp open 5:30-9:00 pm. There is a designated “kid area” on the beach that provides pails and shovels to the children.

In 2004 Stephanie sent 12 young people from Giving Tree (a program that rescues homeless children and assists needy children) and their 4 chaperones on a trip to California. One activity she was told they enjoyed while there was collecting seashells. Miami Beach is perfect for those who love to collect shells.

In addition to providing a high standard of luxury, Loews Miami Beach Hotel also sponsors the Loews “Green Initiative”. The initiative comprises a Green team. One person from each department is in charge with ensuring environmental improvements and practices are in place. The Green practices are very simple. Loews asks customers if they would prefer to not have their sheets washed everyday. There is a bike park on the property and every light in the hotel uses energy efficient bulbs to promote “green lighting”. The hotel is close to receiving certification from the Florida Green Lodging Program. Loews is one of only three on-beach hotels in Miami to have a Green initiative. The other two hotels that have Green initiatives are significantly smaller than the Loews.

The Wolfsonian Museum at the Wolfsonian Florida International University is located in the heart of Miami Beach, Florida. Originally the museum site was a warehouse built in 1926 as a storage space for seasonal residents. It is foremost a design museum that focuses on the persuasive power of art and design. The collection has pieces that relate to the period between 1885 and 1945, from the height of the industrial revolution to the end of World War II. Items include architectural designs, graphic artwork, propaganda, commercial items and items related to mass transportation. The objects and artifacts are things that surrounded people in their everyday life.

The museum is free to Miami residents. Every Friday there is free gallery admission for all visitors between 6pm and 9pm. The museum is just down the street from the Loews Miami Beach Hotel on 10th and Washington.
