“Traveling Feet” is broadcasting live from the Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort and Club in Aventura, Florida.

The Greater Miami Area encompasses everything from the beaches to the everglades. Miami has two national parks, the Everglades National Park and Biscayne Underwater National Park. The Biscayne National Park is a well kept secret of Miami and is 90% underwater. The Miami Visitors Bureau is interested in promoting its strengths in ecotourism.

Miami is also home to world class events such as the South Beach Food and Wine Festival, held February 19 -22 in 2009. Miami has the southern most winery in the continental US, Schnebly Redland's Winery. The winery uses many tropical fruits grown in the Miami area including mangoes, key limes and even avocados.

$45 million dollars were invested in the two golf courses at the Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort. Designer Raymond Floyd transformed both courses to championship quality. There are 36 holes on dynamic grounds. One part of a course runs alongside the highest waterfall in the state of Florida which is 64 feet tall. The waterfall is the most popular location for wedding photography at the resort. The golf courses offer brand new tailor-made rental sets for men and women so that guests don't have to pack their own. Junior rental sets are also available. You are able to book your tee times when you book your room reservation.

While both courses are championship level, there is greater shot-making difficulty at the Soffer course. Though less demanding the Miller course is still a premium course. Its back nine plays around LakeJulius on the resort's property. The Soffer course was used for the Stanford LPGA International Pro-Am in April, 2008. The excellent banquet facilities and luxury accommodations are perfectly suited for golfing professionals.

The courses are also available for beginners. ESPN-golf clinics are available daily and there are hundred yard markers used to help beginners. Stephanie mentions the First Tee Program a youth development program dedicated to enriching children through golf. Stephanie sent 12 young people from the Giving Tree Outreach Program to Ireland where they experienced the golf program firsthand. Golf Director Bob Coman points out that golf is a great sport because you are always playing against yourself.

Aventura is close to the inner-coastal area so there is always a breeze. Though the winter months are very popular there are great packages available for the shoulder season and summertime. Activities at the resort include tennis, kid's games, croquet, waterslide, jogging and the lazy river ride. The lazy river ride is 1,800 feet long and goes underneath two waterfalls. You can hop on at any time as long as there is an available tube. There is also a 2.9 mile looped jogging trail that goes through the heart of Aventura.

Hour 2

Topics Include:

The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort and Club is almost equidistant from Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale Airport. The architecture, landscaping and decor of the property are fabulous. Subtle details such as the Koi ponds found on the grounds give the resort the feeling of a tropical paradise.

The Fairmont Turnberry serves an average of 1,500 meals a day. The resort focuses on offering local meals such as the Latin breakfast which includes tropical fruit punch and huevos rancheros.

The resort offers several conference and events space inside and outside. The banquet hall is 40,000 square feet. Outside, events are held at the magnolia terrace which overlooks the waterfall at the 18th green lawn and on the lawn area by the Laguna-pool which accommodates about 500 guests. The Fairmont Turnberry has a total of 3 pool decks as well as an ocean club a mile from the property in Sunny Isles. The ocean-front space has a restaurant, beach and pool.

The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort and Club's Executive Pastry Chef, Tim Brown, was formerly the pastry chef at Wheatleigh Hotel in Lenox, MA.  The baking the chef does in Florida differs from when he resided on the east coast. Oddly shaped wedding cakes are often requested. The wildest themed pastry was Victorian themed baby naming cake. Customers requested the cake be shaped like a Victoiran-style tea cup. The final product was a traditionally shaped cake with extensive icing made to look like Victorian lace.

The resort completed a $150 million dollars renovation in 2007. The property has four individual buildings each with its own personality. There are 392 guest rooms including 1 bedroom suites as well as tower suites in the orchard building and several presidential suites intended for larger gatherings. The rooms at the hotel use a lot of natural fibers and warm wood tones. The Willow Stream Spa on site is three stories and offers hundreds of different treatments.
