There are many misconceptions about travel being too costly. There are inexpensive flights and cheap accommodations worldwide. An alternative to staying in a hostel is to book a room in a university. Stephanie mentions seeing rooms at the University of Nice for $10 USD a night in recent years.

Lee Jenkins, author of “What to Do When Your Money is Funny”, was on television over the weekend and stated that you should not go on a vacation in a troubled economic time. Stephanie says this is absolutely untrue and reiterates that you cannot afford not to travel.

Elderhostel offers learning adventures in all 50 United States and in 90 other countries. The organization was founded on the principle of encouraging community activism and guerilla-style education, promoting life long learning opportunities around the world. Participants gain experience with experts in varied fields. An example is a program on Broadway where you can sit in on auditions with a producer who is casting for a show.

Elderhostel focuses on those 55 and older but the organization has recently developed the Roads Scholar program for those 21 and older. The program is intended for very small groups (under 20 people) who wish to pursue more independent experiences. Most Elderhostel programs are all-inclusive covering travel, food, accommodations, program activities and all gratuities.

Hour 2

Topics Include:

This hour of “Traveling Feet” included giveaways for a 6-night stay at the all-inclusive Hedonism II in Jamaica, 3 night stays in Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello in Quebec and the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, plus a 2 night stay at the Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort (airfare not included).

The SuperClubs collection of resorts is beginning a re-branding initiative that will have all their properties headed under one master brand. Some properties will undergo name changes and some restructuring. SuperClubs will also open their first Panama resort in summer, 2009 under the title Breezes Panama.

The Starfish Trelawny is an inclusive SuperClub resort with the price of accommodations, meals and drinks included in the final cost. However not all restaurants are included in the package and the drinks provided are not premium brand. The Starfish Trelawny will soon become Breezes Trelawny. The name change also means that like other SuperClubs resorts, the package will be super-inclusive including all food and beverages, premium brand drinks and airport transfers.

Hedonism II in Jamaica is a 280 room resort on the best beach in Negril. It welcomes both singles and couples and is an adults-only property. There is an all-natural beach and a section of beach for those who wish to remain clothed (a nude and a prude beach respectively). Hedonism II is a super-inclusive resort.

The Starfish Trelawny is the only Breezes resort in Jamaica to cater to families. Other Breezes resorts have age stipulations for young adults. Some allow those 14 and over, some 16 and over and some are exclusively 18 plus.

The Liberty Fleet of tall ships organizes private and group charters on a 101 foot tall 1800's schooner replica. The original schooners were used as cargo carrying vessels by New England fishermen. The Liberty Clipper, built in 1983, is normally stationed out of Boston, Massachusetts but is currently operating out of Key West's Schooner Wharf Bar.
Private charters are available for events including wedding receptions. The ship is also used for school field trips. Management encourages guest participation in manning the ship. A normal group trip takes people out for two to three hours with the option of a sunset or dinner sail. A sunset trip costs $50 USD and includes drinks and appetizers.  A dinner sail costs $85 USD. The 80 ft tall Schooner Liberty, built in 1993, was the original boat of Liberty Fleets. It was recently sold and is being used as a charter ship elsewhere by its new owners.

During the summer, the Clipper is based out of the Boston Aquarium in downtown Boston. The Liberty Fleet offers Sunday brunch sales and other specials throughout the summer. The Boston tea party is reenacted twice on weekends. There is a 6 day event of Boston Harborfest in the beginning of July with the July 4th Boston Pops performance within earshot of the ship. July 8, 2009 marks the beginning of the International Tall Ship Atlantic Challenge with ships departing July 13th and Labor Day weekend is the great Gloucester Schooner Festival.

Travel tips:

Passports are only good for 9 and 1/2 years rather than a full ten. You are unable to leave the county if your passport is 6 months within expiring. When you buy something in Canada the value added tax is always included. On average it adds 13 to 14 percent of the price to the total purchase cost. Some stores take the tax out at once whereas other stores require additional paperwork in order for customers to be credited. You will need to show your passport at the time of purchase.

Guests Include:

Paul Pennicook, President, International Lifestyles.

Greg Muzzy, Owner, Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships.
