Come to booth #1000 February 6-8, 2009 at the New York Times Travel Show and visit Travel Expert Stephanie Abrams. Stephanie will be conducting two seminars at the show, one on global shopping tips and one another on the Treasures of Ireland.

Hotel owner Phil McCabe joins “Traveling Feet” from Naples, Florida to discuss one of his Naples properties. McCabe had previously owned a hotel in Maine but headed south to warmer weather. Now in its 11th season, the Inn on 5th is a boutique hotel in Naples, Florida with 87 rooms and 11 suites. 5th Avenue is a nine block avenue of shops and restaurants in the most charming part of Naples. There are two restaurants right on site. McCabe's Irish Pub is truly an authentic Irish experience with all its furnishings imported from Dublin. McCabe is second generation Irish and visited the designer in Ireland to discuss the pub's construction. The other restaurant, Truluck, serves surf and turf.

Stephanie typed “Dooley Car Rental” into a web search to make sure she had the correct website for the company. She came across a forum where someone negatively reviewed Dooley as being too expensive. Stephanie sets the record straight. When Dooley Car Rental quotes you a price it includes liability insurance, the collision damage waiver, everything but the gas. There are a couple of big brand car rental companies that will add in a border crossing fee for traveling into Northern Ireland. With Dooley, nothing is hidden. It is family owned and run and completely reliable.

Tammy Malamud> joins “Traveling Feet” to discuss swimming at the Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort>. Even on a chilly Florida morning (48 degrees Celsius) the hotel's
Olympic-size swimming pool is inviting. It is always heated to a comfortable 78 degrees. For those not yet old enough to do laps in the larger pool, there is a children's pool as well.

Hour 2

Topics Include:

All roads lead to Ireland and the Berkshires. As she watched the “We are One” Inaugural Concert at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on television, Stephanie reflected on the connection to home. In Williamstown, Massachusetts the Williams College Museum Art is presenting a Lincoln exhibit called Lincoln to the Nth Degree. Curator Nancy Mowll Mathews said that it was partly a matter of happenstance. She was looking through the museum's archives last year and found material donated by an alumnus of the college who was a Lincoln buff. His collection included photographs, early Currier and Ives prints, and the cast of the design of the Lincoln penny. Realizing that 2009 was the Lincoln bicentennial, Mathews dug deep into the collections at the college, including the college's Chaplain Library of Rare Books, to develop the exhibit which includes pictorial objects as well as rare documents like Emancipation Proclamation and the Declaration of Independence. The exhibit has a total of fifty objects and admission is free.

Also in Berkshire County is Stockbridge, Massachusetts, home to the Norman Rockwell Museum. Rockwell in his later years said that he felt Lincoln was the greatest American to have ever lived. He painted Lincoln's figure eight times and referred to him in numerous other paintings. Two of the Lincoln pieces will be exhibited in July. They are currently on display at the Detroit Art Institute and are traveling with “American Chronicles: the Art of Norman Rockwell”. The Norman Rockwell Museum will also host exciting programs in celebration of Lincoln's Birthday. On February 12th, the museum is hosting a family day with activities and games. On February 14th Lincoln will be live at the museum. The Valentine's Day event will have an interpreter acting as the character of Lincoln.

Chesterwood in the Berkshires is the home of Daniel Chester French, sculptor of the “Lincoln in the Chair” statue. His 1898 home, gardens and studio are open to the public May 1st through October 31st, 10am to 5pm. French also sculpted a standing statue of Lincoln which is in front of Springfield, Illinois's Capitol Building. French's home estate is approximately 250 acres. During the summer contemporary sculptors exhibit their works along some of property's surrounding trails.

Click here to read Stephanie's comments on another Lincoln related Berkshire location, Eastover Resort in Lenox, Massachusetts. Eastover is a year-round resort located on 600 acres that overlook October Mountain and Mt. Greylock. Ticki's father was very interested in the civil war period and began collecting memorabilia. This collection became the American Heritage Room, a museum built on the estate in 1961. It is one of the largest private collections of civil war memorabilia in the country and includes civil war cannons that are brought to Tanglewood each summer and fired when the Boston Symphony plays the finale of the 1812 Overture. The collection also includes carriages and a horse drawn fire truck.
