“Traveling Feet” is broadcasting live from the Falls Hotel and Spa in Ennistymon, County Clare, Ireland. The hotel is ten minutes from the Cliffs of Moher, which offers one of Ireland's most spectacular views. Tonight is the holiday decorations ceremony at the Cliffs Visitor Centre.

Many Irish tourists choose to fly into Dublin and travel south. In doing so they neglect Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is a firmly integrated geographical area that has a wealth of things to do. Giants Causeway on the Atrium Coast is a world heritage site famous for its basalt columns formed by volcanic activity. It is also one the most scenic drives in all of Ireland. Close by is the Bushmill, a village that is the site of the oldest distillery of whiskey in the world. In Derry are the Walls of Derry, Ireland's only well preserved wall city. The walls were built between 1613 to 1618 as a defense enclosure for early 17th century settlers from England and Scotland.

There are many events in Northern Ireland throughout the year. Derry is well known for its Halloween festival. Belfast holds the North West 200 each May, which is one of the biggest road race events in all of Europe. The Titanic was built and launched in Belfast so each April a Titanic shipbuilding festival is held. Belfast also has the Festival at Queens held at Queen's University each year in late autumn. The event highlights popular music and drama activities.

The Cathedral Quarter in Belfast is an upcoming art district. Stephanie recommends staying at the Merchant hotel, an intimate 5 star hotel that has 26 guest rooms including 5 suites.

The Falls Hotel and Spa is based in Ennistymon, County Clare and is a 14 minute drive from the Shannon airport. It is on 50 acres of grounds with walking trails along the river and through the woods of the property. There are 140 bedrooms, a large conference center that caters to 350 guests, a bar that overlooks the cascades and the River Inagh as well as a luxury spa.

The River Spa has a 20-meter swimming pool, 12 spa treatment rooms, an outdoor hot tub, sauna, steam room, gymnasium, and relaxation room overlooking the river. It is called the River Spa because it offers many views of the River Inagh which is a great source of relaxation in and of itself.

The building was formerly a manor home with 20 bedrooms owned by the McNamara family. The McCarthy family converted it to the Falls Hotel in the 1950's. Today the couple's oldest son Michael is general manager and their second son John is deputy manger. The original building dates back to the 18th century. The stone steps at the hotel's entrance are part of the original structure and are a preservation site. The bar at the hotel is named after poet Dylan Thomas because he was married to Caitlin McNamara, the daughter of the owners of the original manor house.

One of Stephanie's favorite Irish villages, Spiddal, lies along the coast of County Galway. Galway is home to the National University of Ireland, many museums and some of the finest golf courses in the world. The most renowned course is the Galway Golf Club in Salthill.

Various festivals take place in the county throughout the year including September's Clarinbridge Oyster Festival, which started in 1954. The Galway Races, a weeklong Irish horse racing festival that attracts visitors from around the world, are in August.

When staying in Galway. Stephanie recommends the Galway Bay Hotel or the Glenlo Abbey Hotel. Glenlo Abbey is in the town of Bushy Park which is noted for its woodland walks. Galway has great potential for tourism and businesses. Boston Scientific in Galway currently has 2,500 employees.

Self-catering gives travelers the opportunity to rent a holiday home for their vacation. There are properties throughout Ireland that one can rent for a couple of days or a couple of weeks. Many include 3 to 4 bedrooms, on-suite bathrooms (private bath), kitchens and leisure areas. Properties can be rented for as little as $30 USD a night. Certain properties are extremely unique. The Irish Landmark Trust converted an 18-century lighthouse at Wicklow Head to a coastal home. It is five floors with two bedrooms on each floor.

The family-run Mooney Hotel Group is made up of three properties: the Wellington Park Hotel, the Dunadry Hotel and Country Club and the Armagh City Hotel; all three focus on hospitality. It is the hope of the hoteliers that they have created an environment where visitors can make friends for life. At the Dunadry Hotel there is a tree on the front of the property that is actually two trees grown together. This is an icon of peace in Ireland. There is also a river running through the grounds that adds to the feeling of tranquility.
