March 01, 2007- Stephanie Abrams to Become Honorary Friend of Saint Patrick

Downpatrick, Co. Down, Ireland ( March 1, 2007): Travel guru and broadcaster Stephanie Abrams has been nominated as an ‘Honorary Friend of Saint Patrick' - an accolade which she will receive when she travels to Ireland for the 17th March to present a series of shows for her award winning radio programs ‘Travelling Feet' and 'Travel with Stephanie Abrams'.

The Friends of Saint Patrick is an international charity which celebrates the legacy of the Saint Patrick in Ireland and around the World. Based beside Patrick's Grave at the $10M Saint Patrick Centre in Downpatrick in Ireland, the organisation bring thousands of children together every year to learn about Patrick's message of reconciliation for all faiths. It also provides the only permanent exhibition on Patrick in the world and supports good causes overseas – most recently the children of the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster and the refugees of Central Sudan through our 2006 program.

Abrams, with over twenty years in the travel industry, is recognized as an expert, having been repeatedly named to "Travel Agent Magazine's" list of the "100 Most Powerful Women in Travel." She has served on the Advisory Boards of Dollar Rent a Car, Amadeus Global Distribution System International and Domestic Advisory Boards, Hong Kong Tourism Authority, The American Society of Travel Agents Council of Travel Marketing Organizations, and the International Affairs Committee of the International Franchise Association.

Director of the Centre, Dr Tim Campbell said: ‘This is a rare and prestigious accolade given to a very small number of people every year. Stephanie has been a real inspiration and friend since we met over five years ago. She is a wonderful advocate for Ireland and particularly the work of the Saint Patrick Centre. I am delighted to be able to recognise her many good deeds on behalf of the Patron Saint'

Some Honorary Friends prefer to remain anonymous but their number is known to include the recent Mayor of Washington Anthony Williams, The Most Reverend Timothy Dolan Archbishop of Milwaukee, New York Times best selling author Caroline Myss, Director of the New York Irish Arts Centre Pauline Turley, Sir Patrick Cormack MP and the Baron of Slane Cyril Woods. The Mayor of London Ken Livingston, will be given his honor at a gala dinner on St Patrick's night in the Savoy Hotel, London.
