"Bewitching applies literally to the pet-welcoming Hawthorne Hotel in Salem, Massachusetts, a member of Historic Hotels of America."

Across the park you'll see The Salem Witch Museum, an “EPCOT-like” presentation of the history of the Salem witch trial period. Around the corner, you'll find the fabulous Peabody Essex Museum, a magnificent collection of porcelain, art and artifacts assembled over hundreds of years by seamen who sailed into this port. The items are now displayed in a modern facility that opened in June, 2003. As the seamen who are responsible for this extraordinary collection would have said, “This museum will blow you away!” Walk another few block passing darling boutiques and souvenir shops with “witchcraft and magic” themes to the seacoast where you'll find dining indoors and out by the surf. Terraced restaurants are always sought out by pets traveling with their owners.

Now that Fido has sniffed out the area, it's time to check into The Hawthorne Hotel. Your pet will love the welcoming greeting complete with treats, a list of furry-guest expectations and a copy of the Pet Room Service menu. Expectations include having your pet on a leash at all times, never leaving pets unattended in your room (pet sitters are available), cleaning up after your pet while exploring Salem, removing your pet from the room during housekeeping services periods, providing a $100.00 refundable deposit against potential pet damages and a charge of $10 per day will apply as a pet guest fee.

If you select the Pet Package, you'll receive a voucher for $30.00 each day of your stay to be used for your in-room breakfast for you and your pet. Having breakfast served in your room solves the problem of how to have breakfast without leaving your pet alone or in your car, which you should NEVER do in warm weather. Breakfast choices for Fido include: poached chicken and white rice; steamed hamburger with boiled potatoes and rice; “fish and chips” steamed cod with sliced boiled potatoes; and “Special Treat” sirloin with white rice infused with veal stock. A cat menu is also available. The Pet Room Service menus are veterinarian approved.

And now for the hotel itself: You'll find that this Historic Hotel of America member conforms to your expectations of unique style, charm, and warmth in abundance as well as information about the hotel's relationship to the seafaring history of the area. The friendly staff adds personality to your memorable stay.

Before you check out, be sure to have lunch or dinner in The Hawthorne Hotel's casual dining restaurant, Tavern on the Green. The food is excellent and the wait staff is friendly and attentive. There is also a fine dining restaurant, Nathanial's, whose ambiance is reminiscent of a colonial dining room

A visit to Salem is a quick 30 to 40 minute drive from Boston and, once there, you'll find yourself positioned for easy access to Gloucester, Rockport, Ipswich, Rowley and Newburyport, all historic, charming towns that beg for your attention! You and Fido could easily spend a glorious week or two exploring this special region of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts because there is so much worthwhile to see and do there!
